The snow lashes and beats itself against the barren landscape.
The wind moans and screams in a fit of wild fury.
Trees bend and groan against the double attack
as animals scamper towards their warm burrows in a hurry.
Winter is here and letting his prescence be known.
A month or two he has to do his worst.
The snow, wind, ice and sleet are his weapons of choice.
Death, destruction and bitter cold quenches his thirst.
Hills, meadows and winding roads
sparkle with their diamond bright coverings of snow.
Ice and all its other forms cover every surface.
It was evident that Winter will not soon go.
It just isn’t his time.
Windows are covered with frost and a glow
of firelight that lights up the insides of each home.
Meanwhile outside the ice-clogged rivers try to flow.
Winter laughs as he sends a Nor’Easter out to do its worst
along with a fresh cold front to provide a few more feet of snow
to the already beleagured landscape
that shivers and shakes down below.
As Winter enjoys his destructive playtime,
another waits their turn in the wing.
His end is coming and his last gasp will give
way to healing as Winter gives way to Spring.
Silver,
Quite beautiful, both the picture and the poem. I may not be a proponant of winters snow after all we had last year, here, but this poem really makes me rethink that thought. But wait till the end of the coming week till I make any hasty decisions as the cold is waiting in the wings for sure, so by the end of this week, it will be too cold in this camper for me to even think...Peace, Ed & Rufuz

Silver this is lovely as I am a HUGE fan of Old Man Winter myself, but alas he's not visited here...yet! I am however remaining hopeful, and this lovely piece of yours now really has me in the mood for his visit!
Happy New Year

Well, you give me hope on an very cold day here. There are ice floes on the river below and that is most uncommon. Thank you for this offering oh Celtic kin (I am Breton). Love and peace, Regis.
wonderful imagery and feeling in this lovely write; thanks for sharing, silver! enjoyed much~ (((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in texas, karen lynn. :D
I suppose that inclement weather is a problem for many, and I know that a really bad storm can be devastating. I am still sick over the fact that we didn't have a white Christmas. We had snow early, it all melted, and now that the holidays are over, we're having it again. I like snow, as long as there isn't too much of it.
