Shadows move freely
in my room each night
appearing without the need of light
blacker than black
they possess the form of a man
but hold no identifiable feature
other than deep, hollow eyes of iniquity
that pierce the darkness of my soul...
Their nightly visits
bring terror to my heart
I lay motionless in my bed
praying useless prayers
begging that they will pass me by
I fear their familiar touch...
Once again the molestation of my spirit
creates the chill of death
paralyzed, I scream from deep within
but no sound escapes my lips
my tortured heart pounds
my tears fall
but like every night before
I receive no mercy
from the dark shadows
that haunt me...
Finally released from his vice-like grip
I drift off to a tormented, medicated sleep
knowing that tomorrow night
another shadow man will appear...

Lori, this is a very powerful poem...you have captured this image with amazing realism...I pray that anybody having these kind of dreams will find peace within themselves...your poem is sensational...Fletcher B
I agree with Ted. Background noise always helps. And the next time those shadows show up, just pretend they're trying to find their way to the bathroom.
This is very well done, very realistic. Unfortunately, (after having read some on the subject -- thank you, your poem made me do it) I realized just how commonly this syndrome goes on untreated. Excellent piece of writing.
