Lunch in the park...

I traded
my sandwich
and cake
for a homeless man’s smile,
in the park
where ducks eat free.

As we talked,
I offered my grapes and
a Hamilton.

“No thank you,” He Said.
“You have already been too kind.”

Tears challenged
my eyes.

“Too kind,” I thought.

Sitting alone, a
single tear acknowledged
its victory, slowly surveying
the homeless look
on my face.

As he walked with the ducks,
I left with the homeless man’s
smile.
