Layers of lies, like clothing, piece upon piece,
with hopes they cover the stain, the blood,
the exploitation of the one you were.
The one you are. The one you wish to be.
The sins of your father remain.
He called it love. Your little secret.
Lingering specters. Shadows of suppression.
Lusting after his disease, the one he dealt to you.
Now your own.
You seek a vaccination.
From men. From god.
From pills, blood and self deprecation.
Rainbows and butterflies.
Little girl dreams, destroyed.
Those silent nights. Those inner screams. That hidden hell.
The cry of the innocents’ continues.
Part Two...
Mommy is silent, so I am too,
at night, when he comes to me.
I carefully clean up what can be cleaned.
I hide the rest.
No need for mommy’s help.
I know she wouldn’t understand.
Only one of us should be dirty.

A voice for a silent victim. My prayers are with you and anyone who reads this with the hope for a better world devoid of such pain.
Well-crafted poem and abuse will always be an abomination. I wrote one poem on it to make people aware that once the act is done; the pain will never end for the memory of the abused will never forget or forgive, a very worthwhile piece of poetry.
wow i wrote on this today posted it now reading you
(even though it isn't about you) i can see we were on the same page
and one of the twins as well...heavy writings on a subject you can't write enuf about......
crusade on!!!
This is so true of feeligs of children of sexual abuse. It might not be autobiographical, but it is just how it feels for the victim. Wonderful insight.
This is so mind-numbing that it is good to have it continually brought before us so that we can never be insulated from the harsh realities of too many people's very terrifying lives. It is extremely mind-bending how these situations can develop as between those who, out of doors, bear themselves so "normally". Like Jerry and others, it is the role of the mother that I find particularly hard... but then, presumably there may be an on-going chain of male/female abuse as the pattern continues as a kind of dreadful "hand-me-down" from generation to generation, those who seem unable to step out of an abusive culture. I think it must take a lot of strength and the ongoing commitment and love of very close friends to "get people out of this"... so many live in denial anyway. Perhaps survivial becomes the daily chief end, rather than any hope of normality. Chilling and insightful, Lori. Kate xx
such a heartrending piece, indicative of the darker depths which have shaded the light of far too many young girls' lives. you have an empathic gift, expressed to full effect in your poetry. write on.
My father never abused me but I know of classmates that were abused. For me it was his saintly friend. And the children were being sold before the Tsunami and have been in Laos, Cambodia and all over the world including here in the United States. I am a firm believer in castration for a man that does this to a child and severe punishment for a woman that does it or allow it.
This is an amazing and enlightening write. I never heard of sexual child abuse until I was an adult. It is all so sick and twisted. I pray for the children who are being sold after the Tsunami. But, also, it could be happening next door. I agree with Jerry. In most cases the mothers know and they do nothing.
Lori this made me cry. It is all too true in our society today that there are men like that who abuse their children, physically, meantally and sexually. These men need to be locked up and never let out. I ordered a book called God Bless The Child by K. T. Leone (Little Katie). It also tells of physical (not sexual) child abuse, and how the child, who is is 4 years deals with it. You can order that book at any bookstore. I think you would find it fascinating, as the child does have a saviour. please keep up the good work.

Incest. Rape. Incesteous rape. It is far more common that even I, my cynical self knew. It is proobably one of the most ancient crimes against nature. One thing, I don't understand why the wife is always given a pass in situation like this. There is no way that the vast majority of them don't know what is happening under their own roof. It is called aiding and abetting. Mother has soiled hands too, Lori.
Lori, You give those a voice that would normally not have one at all.
Even in this day and time we tend to shut them out/off, for we are a society that wishes to be sheilded from truth, and especially when we feel as though we've failed.
As devastating as this is, it's an undeniable flaw on life.
Awesome writing Lori!
How frightfully awful. It does leave one sickened to the core.
Brings the blood to boiling point.
Brings Caveman instincts to the fore, to wipe such scum, into the floor..

This is so powerful, touching and sad, Lori. It makes my stomach turn to think about this happening to a baby, but the rude reality is that it happens every day. Excellent writing.
Take care,
