Words.
No rhyme, no metre.
Nothing more than ambient images
in anti rhythmic disarray.

Screaming for release, the poetry pleads
with pages and pen to defy the mysteries of a master
unwilling to rule.

Write me with expression.
Let pain be pain, untainted by explanation.

Write me raw.
Let dreams and nightmares stand on their own,
with no more intent than their own rationale.

Write me unpolished, before I fade,
in the urgency of my call
while expression remains free.

Write me, before the poet kills the poetry.

Write me...

Lori, Hi I haven't been on in so long! So glad to be back and this is amazing, the guts of it, and I so needed to read it now. I am going to work on this. "Let pain be pain untainted by explanation" Thank you for this bit of grit. A new fav for sure.

That's right: writers don't get ideas, ideas get writers. And oftentimes they have to drag us kicking and screaming. What else can they do, lest they be forever stifled? This pleads the case and doesn't waste a word. Well done.

Lori,

Excellent!!! I love this. Very powerful message. Some of the best poetry is raw words as you express. Expression without explanation. Many times poetry loses some of its impact and beauty when trying to polish it or by explaining too much. The art of poetry is in expression and interpretation and each individual interpreting in their own fashion to fit their thoughts and mood. Thank you for sharing these words!

Lori,
I've missed so much during my absense. This was powerful and the best poetry written is penned just as you describe, it becomes true poetry in and the essence of a powerful piece. Excellent!

OH YES!!!! Can totally relate to this scream for reality, Lori! Tell it like it is!! Not cleaned up... sorry, but reminds me of the messy birth of a child: holding all that slimy goo in your arms is one of the most heart-bursting, sensual and UTTERLY BEAUTIFUL feelings in the whole of life's experience - in as far as I have experienced anything in this life!! This poetic shout goes deep with me and love the raw reality of it. So often, I know that I kill underfoot what potential for poetry that I might have with my heavy lead boots... so often I write with a bludgeon in a snow-mittened glove on a pile of ash in the slops of my mind.... MY how poetic I am today!! LOVE THIS! Thank you, Kate xx

I know this situation far too well. If I don't write it down as it comes to me the poem or story just seems to evaporate. Laffin' at Andy's comments, he is literally a trip. This is exceptional, Lori, I could really sense the urgency.

Yes Lori, "write me" is what we do. Whether it is dark, light, humorous, rhyming, free-style, haiku...it doesn't matter. Poetry tells of the soul, and deep with in that soul. So, I do so agree with Bobbi, in that you write so well the poems of your soul. And, our inspiration for these poems does come at the most inconvenient times too. We, all of us here, whether published or not, whether paid or just to share with others, makes no difference. We are all writers to the nth degree. writing is not in our minds, but in our souls. And our souls share this writing by telling us to put it down in words for others to read. Lori, you write so well, I think I'm jealous (giggles). Anyway, this is very good, so keep the ink fresh and the pen in your hand, cause your words need to be seen by others, like me (giggles again). May the Lord be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love, peace, & (((HUGS))), your very dear friend in Wisconsin, and sister in Christ our Lord,

The cry of the poet's mind for stimulation from itself and others is a wild scream for expression, and you captured it so well. Words screaming for expression in the middle of the night, at the most inconvienent times and whenever they feel the need to be heard is the mark of a poet's mind, and yours is a wonderful playground for those words.

Dearest Lori
I heard you wanted to be written to.
I hope this finds you well.
How's work?
Are you still enjoying those great poems you so divinely write.
Are you stlill colouring well.
Hows the brain and babe of the week going.
Hope you find your metre, is it gas of elec' metre you have lost.
I did as you wished. I wrote this in the raw. I did not polish either.
I wrote this in haste. As you say it's an urgency.
Don't kill the poetry. Except in self defence.
Then find a good barrister.
Normally all at the bar. Prolly Billy Bubs.

Very interesting piece, Lori. I like it. I love how the last line could be interpreted in at least two different ways. It could either be a plea to write to you, or to put the essence of you on paper before the poetry of you fades from our minds. Bravo.
