Some teachers are only used to the old ways or their ways of thinking; while others are more adapted to new changes and new world. Dr. B should learn how to teach others to exercise thinking ability. I'm glad you have not changed yourself to her way.
This reminds me of when my sister went to school she had always come 1st in the class, one time she came home crying because that semester she was in 2nd, but that was just because she and another teacher did not see things eye to eye, and that teacher had failed her and pulled her overall marks down. As a result she came in 2nd that semester. Just to show you that some teachers are deadly, when others don't listen to their ways.
In this world of fast changes, we all can learn from everyone, the exchange of ideas are much necessary for one to gain new knowledge. The young can learn from the olds, and the old can learn from the youngs. One should never limit oneself to gain new knowledge.
Intellectual arrogance and prescription sickens me. Also the deification of acquired head knowledge over perceived wisdom and revelation. What does man (or woman know) that someone else didn't find out? No wonder the world is in shite if there are those who insist that they are the only ones with knowledge... I don't see too much of the knowledge fixin things. Seems like the world needs a bit of fresh thinking to me, but then, if I knew more, perhaps I might know better! Works dor me, this jibe at closed-thinking, open-sewer mind of one Dr. B. Seems you weathered her diatribe, however, that is saying something good you you.
Your poem brought back memories for me, Lori. Some of professors but moreso of the time I worked in public health. I was told on a few occasions that "I wasn't paid to think." A rather frightening statement since I was responsible for people's health. Excellent writing, as you always do.
