The Blood of the Innocent

Perhaps we all should close our eyes
or like a virgin, close our thighs
perhaps we should ignore the cries
of the tired blood of the innocent

Perhaps we all should close our minds
ignore the truth, why waste our time
it's just a simple little crime
that spills the blood of the innocent

The children weep, the children cry
the guilty repeat their secret lie
and no one seems to question why
we ignore the cry of the innocent

Purple bruises, broken bones
shattered lives, unsafe homes
secluded children, left alone
to tend the blood of the innocent

Daddies gone, moms not here
she’s lost again in a shameful tear
and no one ever seems to hear
the weeping blood of the innocent

Ah, but Someone DOES hear...& one day they'll have to give an accounting "for the things done while in their bodies"...what goes around, comes around. Powerful write!

I often wonder the same things that you have expressed here. I have been reading many abused children and women poems and stories. The question that always comes to my mind is why did so many people let it happen? A woman goes screaming down the street after being attack......nobody helps her! I do not understand this. A child is black and blue with tears in his eyes. No body questions this? I do not understand. Never will. Good write.

You know it’s so sad that SOME people can't keep their minds on what you've written. A heartfelt, pure write Lori. Your poem is a very strong look into the reasons why we must save our Children. Forget the rants of those who seem to think they know it all ...”Oh and Tien…You need to chew a bit more on that peace you’re always sprouting about…Lately I’ve seen more hostility from you here than any other on this site.”
So um yeah PEACE.

"I am a 24 year old Law School student living in California. I have bachelor degrees in Political Science and History." - Nice poem about child-abuse and not hiding your head...but why is it you have two degrees and no knowledge of this travesty of US aggression? Why do you strike out so viciously as those of us who DON'T close our eyes and our minds???

To forget would just add to the guilt. I heard today how in UK social workers had ten different occasions to spare a foster child from being murdered. The cowards did not even have the guts to tip the police anonimously. Great poem.

Excellent, Lori. Yes, let's not forget the cries of the innocent dying Iraqi in a country devastated by the Gulf war in 1991 and US economic sanctions. Let's not forget those cries when we drop hundreds of "smart" bombs on innocent civilians like we did in Afghanistan. Iraq is not a threat to the United States. This war is about oil and domination of the region. We are already building a pipeline in Afghanistan. For more information read the Iraq FAQ:

Child Abuse is a very abusive invader to our humanity, and we should never tolerate it or turn our eyes away from it. Well said.
