I didn’t learn to drive
‘til I was almost out of school…
and then I only learned to drive
along the county’s gravel roads.
For those who’ve never traveled one,
I’ll give a brief description…
They only have one lane on them
and it is in the middle.
Along the rock lined roads I drove
with smiling ease and grace.
My confidence waxed strong until…
My dad sent me to PAVEMENT!
I took my younger brother with—
to give me help and courage-
That black road really scared me, cuz
it had TWO lanes to drive on!!
I was scared, and rather frightened
when I got out to the road- -
because there weren’t no lines on it
to guide me down the lane!
And then I had myself a thought,
a marvelous revelation!
I had my brother put his head
outside the pick-up window! :~)
I had him tell when I came
too close to danger’s edge,
and when I strayed too far away
from the asphalt’s same smooth lip…
And I was happy and serene
as we traversed that pavement…
with brother’s behind by my side
and his head poked out the window!

I remember those country lanes, those winding roads...the one behind the woods behind our house was Millsboro Lane. Hilly? Shoot. My brother would take the car and try to jump 'em...rollercoaster rides had nothing on him! LOL Thanks for the memories, love this one.
Hope your brother remembered to pull his head in for traffic! LOL
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D
Thanks for taking me back there once more.
