In response to my challenge for Karla to write a poem using the word "conundrum," she challenged me to use the word "obfuscate" in a poem. Write/right back at you, Karla... your next word is below, sort of... anyone is welcome to play along with us.
Dinner Time Chatter Mom, can we eat? *You’re* never going to believe what happened today! Not until we’ve said prayer. Sit on your bum or you’ll be last. This girl… she was so rude in class In science we did this experiment… SHHHH… It’s your turn to pray. This girl got in so much *trouble! The buck was going to chase me, You’re kidding! Pass the butter, please Seriously! but I crossed the road and ran. Don’t talk with food in your* mouth. Oh, that girl is such a flirt! Pass the butter, please… I’m *next! Did you know that down in the South… Dad… I don’t have a fork. Don’t text! Dad… Yes? Did you spill on your shirt? We learned a new word* today Pass the butter, PLEASE!!… That’s awesome! What word is that? Um, um… it’s obfuscate Thank you! Obfuscate? Yep! Do you know what it means? A roller skate? Hee, hee, hee… NO! A fussing baby? Dad, you’re Crazy! A fussing girl named Kate! No! hee, hee, hee… To confiscate? Hee… Wait… I don’t know what that means… Time to clean up. Dinnertime’s over… Obfuscate: to make something unclear or obscure, especially by making it unnecessarily complicated. The message of this poem is a prime example… Can you figure it out? I challenge you. Hee, hee…

I think I obfuscated on my bum once,too. You caught the confusing conversation at the table obfuscatingly well, kind of a total poem allegory, and I am beginning to obfuscate in response.......Jerry

not sure about the challenge, but have to wholeheartedly agree with the dictionary meaning of the word "obfuscate" and know that I go by absolutely the correct name, in that case! :))

Oh... TRUCKLE!!! I got it after all! And don't you wonder how it is that ANY food gets eaten at all, with all the chatter goin on?! It always totally amazes me that children can talk and eat and digest at the same time... xx

I realized right away the different colors were different family members. I saw that you have a big family too, everyone talking all at once, taking diverget paths. Yet, the main character got the most attention! ~ Sara

Hee Hee, is right! I know this is a vocab contest but oh so reminiscent of dinner time when the girls were younger. The happy confusion that totally obfuscated table conversation but left us all feeling full in ways that had little to do with food. Thanks for bringing back some good memories!

I loved everything except the mixed colors, they distract and confuse my weak eyes;-)Makes it hard to read.Very good challenge you and Karla have going,we did this in a poet wrters club I once belonged to,very good to build a vocabulary.Excellent poem,Cryssa!;-)

Dear Cryssa, It is nice to write a dialog among multiple persons. It looks like the French education in my time. In my view I don't believe that today, you can scold kids at the table. In my time if you did not obey your dad or mom or teacher you were punished, which equaled: no bread and chocolate, which was usually given around four pm. Please do not take my remark too seriousey I just made a comparison between the culture of seventy years ago and now. Great poem, Love Emile
