True story out of my husband's childhood.

Poem Artwork

One Little Fellow

Some young boys were running through an abandoned meadow.
Most of the boys were in their teens but there was one little fellow.
The sun went down real early for the winter was soon to come.
So when it started getting dark, the young boys decided to run.

It grew more ominous as they ran and the little fellow disappeared.
He had to be close by, but he may be hurt, it’s what they all feared.
They finally found him down a deep hole holding tightly to a root on a tree.
They couldn’t see or touch him but they could hear his frantic plea.

Sitting there tense all night trying to persuade the little fellow to hang on.
They were alarmed he would tire and let go, then disappear, and be gone.
He held on tightly til' the sun appeared never letting go of the root he found.
When they finally got a glimpse of him, he was only inches off the ground.

My older brother pull one of those on me once (not the same as your story) but he got a nose bleeding for it. Told you that when I was little I could wipe a sixteen year old bully when I was ten? That little boy had the same grit, like a bulldog won't let it go.
Nice story, and...thanks for the memories.

Bonnie,

Seems like children like to scare you. This is so adorable, especially for those with kids and grandkids.

This poem is mysterious like good poetry should be. I think we've all had the feeling that we've fallen down a hole and got trapped. Takes a big effort to pull yourself out of the hole!
