Oh the things we say to impress the one we love, some can come back to bite you! Jim wished he had...

You’ve Gotta Remember Your Lies!

When I first met my husband he looked like a tan Greek God.
He was diving off the diving board with his tan shimmering bod.
I could hardly take my eyes off him and deep down I knew.
That someday we would marry for that’s what people in love do.

Oh, I’m jumping to conclusions but somehow I knew it was true .
I tried to direct my attention away from him, for my friend was there too.
Engrossed in our conversation, I didn’t see him come up behind.
Dumping a bathing hat of water right down my warm, tender spine.

I pretended to be annoyed but I think he saw through me.
For he asked me out that night, it was how it was to be.
From that day on until this, it’s been he and I together.
Relishing the joys of life but also the stormy weather.

When we first met he told me the reason he was so tan.
I never doubted him a minute, for he was my chosen man.
But he never realized that the conversation we had then.
Would be our biggest embarrassment & would come up again.

We sat down to dinner with his bosses and wives,
When I found out the truth from his pack of lies.
His boss made a statement about my husband being tan,
“In the middle of winter it’s unusual,” was how he began.”

At the time my husband was eating, his mouth full of peas.
So I proudly answered his boss as big as you please.
“My husband’s part Indian I pompously proclaimed!”
Jim's peas flew out & he looked at me as if I went insane.

Then as it finally dawned on him why I believed what I said,
My husband’s face began turning all shades of red.
He explained to everyone about the lie he told me years before.
Right before I went to bed and locked our bedroom door.

hee, hee...
Ah, but the real lesson I want my children to learn is that it is impossible to remember all those lies, so they shouldn't even start with them... hee, hee...
They don't believe me...

Got that right, Bonnie, tell one, got to tell another to cover up the first, then another - snowballing until one doesn't know the truth. :) Well done!
