In a city filled with hate came a little child with a plate
and on it was a piece of Christmas cake .
He handed it over to an occupying soldier
And suddenly barriers began to break .
The soldier put down his gun and smiled at the little one
And that was the difference between trust and fear .
It proved not every one is bad and what a taste the cake had ,
For it lingered there until the new year .
