Just like Biggles he wanted to be ,
Like a bird up in the sky , flying free .
He took in some training and soon became ,
A high flying pilot of Biggles fame
In the air force he quickly made some friends ,
Wars are stories with beginnings and ends .
Camaraderie is the narration that guides ,
While the spirit of all for one abides .
Part of a plan in the second world war ,
D Day had come in 1944 .
Over a lake the Liberators flew ,
Suddenly Migs appeared out of the blue ,
They were too fast and one by one they fell ,
One survived and its his story I’ll tell .
Once a pilot was pulled into a boat ,
From all the wreckage that was still afloat .
Barely alive they revived him not once
But twice , he lay recovering for months .
Indian doctors saved this pilots life ,
He returned from the war and found a wife .
His war is over though some friends have left ,
How lucky was he,
to escape from death .

A tragic narrative poem. It is a relief he survived but the memories
of war always return.
