I learned to fly at an early age
Spread my wings and soared
Lifting off from the earth
Feeling the wind beneath my body
I flew higher than the mountains
I flew over treetops
And for those airborne moments
I could do no wrong
But flying, like everything else in life
Has it’s limitations
I could never seem to fly in the rain
Winter seemed to curb my enthusiasm
For soaring and most everything else
Then I got older and ached everywhere
Flying just seemed to make the pain
All that much sharper
I started flying only on special occasions
My flights shorter and easier as years passed
Until one day I realized I no longer flew
Hadn’t spread my wings in months
And I realized a sad truth
If you don’t’ fly, you forget how to soar
Become bound to things here on earth
And forget the wind under your wings
You forget how to fly
Its easy to do
I totally agree about how we can bound to things and forget to use our wings to continue to fly. Main problem I faced as I grew older until a young bird stopped and make me fly again.
