Lonely Mornings, Longing Nights

Sometimes I want something so bad
That I literally hurt from the feeling
I want to hold someone close again
The way I used to do
Before life and time made me hard
And I forgot how to love
I want to kiss lips that hunger
Touch fingers that linger on my body
While I softly beg for more
I want more than a cold lonely pillow
Stained with the tears of the night before
A home that echoes with memories
Of footsteps long passed on
I want to wake up from a night of sleep
To feel breath on my cheek
To share my morning coffee
With more than the local paper
I want to love again

I’ve just forgotten how

Sue,
Man/Woman was not made to live alone and you bring out the emotions of lonliness so well. To fear to love is to fear to live! A great write.

Such passionate sadness echoes within this piece, Sue, it is hard to read without feeling an overwhelming ache for the completion of living awareness' not meant to be alone, an anguish of inner self projected directly into a moment of helpless, hopeless yearning, because, there is such a thing as 'soul-mates', felt inately by sentient beings.

och aye, even camels stop for a drink now and then. That strength in being alone can turn into a lonely night, never
more so than when face to face with coupledom - the shiny happy people of the REM song. I hope your thirst is quenched soon. :-)

yes we do forget how because of life's
hardships and love is the one thing,
probably the only thing which can heal.
I just want my wife to kiss me everyday and
just love me. Why do we make life so hard?
Excellent.

I know this feeling. I'm single. My hubby passed almost ten years ago. You know they say love is like riding a bicycle, once you learn you never forget. I'm game to find out.(smile) This is the kind of write that touches the soul of anyone who has ever loved, lost it, and want to do it again! Thanks for sharing this.

THIS is anguish in words, Sue. You have articulated a longing and a yearning passion that everyone can read and understand. This is good poetry.

Very sad and longing poem, Sue. Do we ever really forget what love is? It is always there deep inside waiting to burst for the right person at the right time. Well I hope you meet that right person at the right time and soon at that.

I'm with Phillip. Ballroom dancing is a great idea. I'm also with the others, if you couldn't love, you could not have written this heartfelt poem. Beautiful.

Doesn't sound, at all, like you've
forgotten how to love.

I agree with Felix. You haven't forgotten how to love or you couldn't have written it so well. I wish you love, around the next corner when you are least expecting it.

Oh, what a tender piece. I have spent many, many lonely nights and longing mornings myself over the past few years and it isn't a pleasant feeling. Thanks for speaking to my current state of mind Sue.

Life hurts. It is beyond me...you can read my short story, "Return of A Stranger." I lived a life like that...only to be rejected and thrown out.
I'm thankful I had what I did, and I'm not without hope someone will yet understand the love I am about-and want to be home.

No Sue your poetry confirms just the opposite. If anything you are more then ready to tackle love, passion and romance again but are you going to take that last big step and go for the gold ring. Its time Sue.
