Small case of writer's block...i'm writing anything to try and spur my muse
Sipping coffee
A poor substitute
For the Dewars and Marlboro
That being a writer
Seems to call for
But my main addiction of late
This thing called caffeine
No more hard drugs
Or even marijuana
Something I can no longer even spell
Without the help of spellcheck
I sit at my desk
No pen and paper in sight
It’s a keyboard
That mocks me now
As I try to write
And wince at what appears
Not even worthy of coffee
This small offering
Is all I have
Hi Sue-I can relate to this and know the feeling
too well. I take notes in a journal and then I come
back and see what I can come up with on the keyboard.
Ah it's worthy and you're not alone.
Every little bit counts, Sue! Keep the hand in! Sometimes throwaway stuff is the best! :-) and slow-to-emerge poems can be worth the effort. But the days when inspiration flows like an electric current through the body are the best of all! k
you offer insight and perspective of a poet's moments when our muse seems to come to a pause ... i think this poem is a prelude to raise the anchors, full steam ahead ...
... and, as always, "small" is beautiful! You have the gift of being able to relate to each and eveyone one of us by "cutting through the crap" and being totally upfront and honest. This don't count as writers' block in my book, anymore than a "bad hair day" is the cause of my more desultory writes. Just goes to show that the Marlboro, grass and even the paper aren't quite the "necessary" ingredients to "having a quick fix" after all! :)) You are totally real, Lady, and I salute you for it! LOL Kate xx
Sometimes I notice that its only when one is experiencing the so called writer's block that the best keep popping up. Take your coffee as a toast to a well penned poem.

I really liked,
"...no pen and paper in sight

Don't I know it. Yet I write of pen and paper...while on the keyboard...stubborness? Refusal to let go of nostalgia? WHO KNOWS? LOL
I just keep writing, whether it's good, bad or indifferent--because I love to, because I have to--
KEEP WRITING! Excellent angst in your words that all writers will identify with--me, especially, as of late.
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :)
