He Wasn't There

This is tongue in cheek...I truly enjoyed every moment of my ex-husbands company...and if you buy that...

Yesterday upon the stair
I met a man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
I wish to hell he’d go away
I wonder who wrote this little ditty
About my ex-husband I am sure
He was never there
But his presence never left me
Driving me up the wall
With all his opinions
While his body was not to be found
He never seemed to be gone
Never disappeared completely
As I often wished him to
He was there too much you see
For though he was always somewhere else
He was always too near for me

Suzy,

Damn fine work here young lady. Harness that memory and turn it on itself. Well done, well done...

oh aye, someone's presence can drive you up the wall, that's true, and wittily captured here, sue.

Loved the nursery rhyme opening and the segue into something darker and more sinister.

As I was going to St. Ives
I met with one of my ex-Wives

If it were not for Exes our writes would lack the blues they need.

Anybody and everybody that is so blessed with an 'Ex' is going to relate so well with this one!
You've managed to zero in on the staircase to which they constantly travel.
Great write!

I liked those opening three four lines, but then repetition of the absence could have been dealt better with fresh images...One nit; L10: oppinions-->opinions (or was that pp intentional :))

Overall an excellent work!

eerie isn't it? How someone can be there, but yet in the physical, they're not? Just goes to show how strong the spirit of a person can be. lots of truth and humor in this one, Sue. Love, Leah

How true this is for everyone we've ever known. They all leave a lasting impression - some we enjoy, and then some others we'd rather be without ;-) Nice job of capturing the haunting.
