I’ve been digging up memories
Ugly, worn tattered things
Left too long in the cold
Drug around by their corners
Till nothing is left but rags
And I clutch them to me
Treasuring them in their drabness
Glorying in the gray
That was left when the colors fled
Because they are proof
Real tangible proof
That once I was alive
That once I loved and was loved
See that smear there in the corner
That is my tears
I did cry at one time
Back when I was alive
Back when I loved
Back when…..

Isn't it nice when we can control our memories and forget all of the things that should be forgotten? I am lucky. I have a wonderful forgettery.

You really have a way with words, Sue. Not a syllable is wasted. Art in its purest form.

Back when I was young and so alive, before the darkness closed in. I can love, but don't really know how. I have been unloved all of my life, except for in my preteens when life was good, and I thought my mother really loved me, only to find out that as soon as I was no longer cute, and was turning into my teens, that she would abandon me and leave me crying for 5½ years of misery, beatings, sexual abuse, mental anguish, and very, very lonely. Yes sis, I remember back when...

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, stubborn to a fault, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your very sad and still terrified little sister, Barbie

"If I have to be this girl in me, Then I may as well be."

Deep and quite profound. Dreams seldom take you pleasant thoughts though sometimes they push you to undesirable margins. Excellent poetry

Sue, back then most often we can never return except in our dreams. Most times that is the only way we would want to return! For everything there is a season. There is a season to love and be loved and a season to let go.........Sometimes in the letting go we become stronger in time and then we can see more clearly that which is before us. Love is there, you just need to be in a place to see it and give back to it. Wishing you well and prayers are with you. This was a wonderful poem but I could read your sadness in it....I wish you great happiness from now on!

Hugs

Old-day rag mops swabbing memories floor of our past footprints back when ... back when our hope chests were filled with colorful souvenirs. Great poetic stroll down memory lane, Sue.
