I wrote this poem some time ago but was not satisfied with it so I pulled the main feeling from it and wrote the poem Almost which i posted a couple of weeks ago. This is the first version of Almost

I feel you drift away
as our 'might haves'
and 'should bes' part to
make way for the harsher
realities of the
'will be' and the 'have to'
that is life...
the part of me that still
believes in fairy tales
sheds a tear for the beauty
that could have been 'us'
and the part of me that
understands that life
is never that pretty
shrugs and says
'I knew it would never happen
anyway'
you will always have a place
in my heart
where the things that aught
to have happened will
always dwell
and tomorrows still have
a chance
where motor bike trips and
long summer evenings
have a hallowed spot in
future wishes and nightly
dreams, in blissful memories
in 'someday' schemes
in special places
that my lips can't find
that only my
heart embraces
