This isn't about me, just about what life can become if we allow it to...
I’m lost
But not desperate
I struggle mildly with this
Muffled, cloudy thing
I call reality
I fight my way clear
Only to fall back in again
Into the fluff of my every day life
It’s not hard
No rough edges and sharp corners
It’s just gray
And shaded creatures inhabit it
Muted sounds
Break thru the monotony
But before I can recognize them
They fade into the wisp
I’m lost
And my maze, this quilted prison
Is too comfortable
To fight free of
"quilted prison" We do that to ourselves, don't we? Place ourselves somewhere for safety's sake only to discover we've trapped ourselves. Enjoyed this reading, Sue. ~~Nordette

Oh how I understand that well-put phrase "quilted prison."
Nice work, girl.
Imagine the effort required to fly a golden cage - a millionaire's unhappy wife, for instance. Life can get its talons into the best of us and it doesn't appreciate a close inspection of its red-in-tooth-and-claw ways. Then there is the life of boredom, but that's another long-winded story. Walking with you thru the grey zones this morning, Sue. :-)

Life can be quite seductive to the point where we feel secure within our own tensions. Weird that is. I could never understand why i felt at ease being on edge in dads company. The answer lay in my being totally aclimatized to his bad moods. In other words I became complascent. Yet when he was good, very good, I was on edge and fearful. I could not win either way. Imagine, tension being a comfort zone? Strange.
Sue, there is so much truth in your poem, appropriately titled "Comfort Zone". Folk just don't like change, they would rather remain as they are then blame the world for leaving them behind. A great inspirational write...full of food for thought.

When I read your poem I thought of people functioning but not awake. If they were awake to their situation they WOULD be desperate. Love the imagery...."quilted prison" and falling back "into the fluff of my everyday life." Enjoy this poem very much. JM
