Nothing Graceful about It

My birthday is Tuesday and I'm feeling the years more heavily than usual...give me a few days and it'll be hip hop again for this grandma

I told a young friend the other day
That life got easier
As one got older
Cause you quit worrying so much
Things aren’t as stressful
The struggles are milder
I’m such a liar
Life hurts just as much at my age
As it did at 25
I worry about my kids
As much as I did when they were 5
You still have to make a living
And the wages are harder earned
When the days get longer
And it’s harder to crawl out of bed
When the mornings come
So much earlier
And the nights stretch on forever
When you lay awake
And sleep won’t come
The aches are deeper
And the sorrow more wearing
So don’t believe this old liar, my dear
When I say life gets easier
It’s just something we tell you young ones
To make growing older
Seem more bearable

Great write. I find that the older I get- life is more like a toothache. Hurts like hell, but you just get used to it.

You are so right Sue, this is a very sensitive poem. Yes pain still hurts, sometimes more than at 25. This poem touched my heart Sue.

How so very true for most of us - but I also truly hope Grandma will be hip hopping again in a few days!

Oh Sue, you've touched my heart with this beautiful write, it was penned from your heart...I must agree for life doesn't get easier, my mom and I were discussing this just the other day, and by the way how fast it seems to be going, life I mean...it seems as only a few days ago that we were raising our children, the terrible two's, the birthday parties, worring when they were late getting home, ballgames, oh the wonderful things that came with motherhood, where did the time go? You've described it so well, the nights do seem to be longer with much on my mind at night, the mornings do seem to be earlier, and my bones ache as I arise...however, I can't complain too much, my mom is sixty eight and still works five days a week by choice...she says that she can't just quit, what would she do with all of her time? She and my dad divorced when I was one year old and she's been solo since....well, I've rambled enough to consider this a blog instead of a review...but your write connected with my spirit this morning, I was just thinking about growing old as I opened my laptop...you've penned a great write my friend!
Blessings,
Joyce Bowling

There are trials at every stage of our lives, and what makes getting older, easier, is just that we have learned that the only constant in life is change. This makes rolling with the punches something we are used to doing. I think we have learned not to bank on what lies ahead, just set our dreams, head in that direction and accept what comes, modify and redirect. Since we don't have the ability to go backwards, we need to learn to embrace every year we are granted. A very happy birthday, Sue and many, many more.
Take care,
Sherry

A truthful write, I felt sad on my last birthday and I am only twenty nine, because I knew that from here on up the battles only got harder, but the Lord will see me through and I hold on to that fact
God Bless

Heartfelt write, Sue!
