This is pretty much what i was like years ago. I'm glad I quit, just wish I'd done it sooner.
I sit staring at the empty bottle
How did it get that way
Did I drink all that?
Empty
I quickly reviewed my choices
Go to bed? Too drunk! and I hate to sleep
With drunks
Go out for more? Tempting
But you know how the cops
In this neighborhood
Can be
DIU? No officer, I’ve had one already
But thank you for offering
No can’t do that
Empty
Damned bottle is still sitting there
Still empty
Look for more? Did that last week
Drank the bottle from
The laundry hamper
Mixed
With the bottle that was
In the refrigerator
Behind the margarita mix
From last summer
(drank that too, just in case)
kind of a last ditch cocktail
but that was last week
this is now
and the damned bottle is still empty
what to do?
I’m a creative drinker
Gotta be creative thinker now
The damned bottle
Is still empty
I have it
Know just what to do
Dialing the phone is a two handed job
I take my time
I’m on a mission, no wrong numbers
At 2am in St louie
‘hello, baby, yeah, this is sue,
I’ve been thinking about what you said
And you may
Be right….we need to talk
Why don’t you pick
Up a bottle of Tangeray
And come on over
Oh and bring some tonic too!’’
Mission accomplished
Nothing to do but hide
This empty bottle
And wait
it's strange when a "non-creative" person drinks excessively, his creativy excells and when a "creative" person drinks to escess his creativity is stiffled... sometimes we achieve both when the bottle is finally over...
Hey Sue, I needed this one tonight. Trying to make my way through a bottle of vodka. I guess this is what it is all about isn't it? Making a difference in another person's life. Thanks.

This was most creative Sue and really fun to read but kind of sad...I am close to some alcoholics and life for the ones near them is hell...so I know about it..I myself have stayed away from it completely..I am happier that way..its too bad..but then anything can become a compulsion...food ..etc...this was really interesting and at the end I have to admit that I laughed...you were very creative..Floria

Hi Sue,
Strange how misery and drink can always team up for a good time, drink can forget misery, but misery never forgets drink.
Glad you got it under control.
Maybe glad is the wrong word, I have been a dead sober miserable drunk many a time.
Its a terrible life trying to sober up, just to remember how miserable you really can be.
Now if I had half a bottle of whisky here at the moment,I could really expand on this theory.
Now creative drinking, and creative thinking,
are subjects that need a rather fuller bottle, and not a great deal of company either.unless the bottle goes empty, and then we resort to your strategy, creative thinkers, thinking drink.

I applaud you for quitting and being able to write the truth about it. I had my own personal bout, so I know well what courage it takes, and the horror one goes through, not to mention the pain. so Bravo to you! Especially for using the on word that describes the life perfectly!...EMPTY!!!

Sue, when I drank at my peak, we would have made a perfect couple. Most of the time we never would have known the other was there. Except when we awoke with the stale booze in the air and I kissed you and said I love you dear. But back then I really loved no one; much less my sweet Sue. I under stand you ... I really do. Maybe if somewhere along the line we had met ... both our lives would be different now. I don't know. I only know that since my emotions have browen through and the feelings flood my heart, I am capable of love. But I guess too late for my dreams to come true. I understand your hunger is still there, I see it in your writing, and I feel turmoil in you heart. And to me you are a dream come true. Someone who can feel and love the way I do. Hope you find him soon. Bill hugs.......
i've been there...thank God i haven't got rip roaring drunk (the kind that makes you forget what you did the night before) in twenty years. vivid, intense write...i remember plenty of other drunks i've been on...they were no fun...what's fun about getting sick? thank you for sharing this, sue, maybe others will be inspired to quit...(((HUGS))) and love, karla. :(
