this was written at the beginning of the war against afghanistan. don't misunderstand i support our country, but i mourn in the inevitable losses
I read the news today
First american soldier killed by hostile fire
During war in afghanistan
I thought for a minute
Trying to imagine gunfire that is not
Hostile
Gunfire that is not meant to destroy
Something
Be it a target
Or a turkey
A criminal or a soldier during war
It is all hostile fire
It is all meant to destroy
And as necessary as it certainly is
I feel for the parents
The loved ones
The friends
of this young green beret
Killed by hostile fire
