Nightmare
When you look down at your child
Laying in a casket of blue
And your heart screams out in pain
Wishing so bad it was you
Knowing the angel laying there
So innocent and free from sin
The agony of tears you cry
Will never bring her home again
Nightmare
Crouched in a corner all alone
Scared of footsteps on the stair
Knowing if you open your eyes
The shadow will be lurking there
A scared little child laying cold
And crying on the floor
His nightmare never goes away
As his Dad stands at the door
Nightmare
Just one more drink and I will stop
Just another touch of red wine
You can't take it from me, friend
This is the only thing that's mine
My demons torture me
Swimming in the bottom of my glass
As it burns it's way down
I wonder who will have the last laugh
Nightmare
Smelling the stench of bodies
And the ever constant sounds of war
Wondering if your wife and kids
Will understand what you died for
He's fading away as he knows
He's lost what's left of the race
Her photograph falls to the ground
As his life's blood covers her face
Nightmares are like walking in heavy molasses up to the ankles, you want to run but you can't, you want to stop but star to sink.
Man can have nightmares when asleep, the worst ones are the ones that you have when you are awake.
Very well done!!!

Very emotional and in your face work that says so much in four short stanzas about the real life day to day suffering of this our world. Sad but needed to be said and your voice is strong and clear for all who take the time to listen.

Applause to you Linda! I think you've captured every nightmare imaginable in this write. Excellent write.

I saw these as living nightmares in my former work among men with social and behavioural problems. One guy drank himself into a stupor every day. He felt guilty about the death of his wife and kids in a car crash in which he was the driver. It was an accident but he never recovered mentally. Eventually he died through drink related causes. Tragically, it was what he wanted. Living nightmares are tortuous.
Wow! What horrible nightmares that are reality to many! Each of the scenerios are heart wrenching...a thought provoking write my friend, you've penned it well! A harsh look at reality for many! Always a pleasure to read your work...
