She walks alone
Her head held down
She never notices
If anyone's around
I see her every day
As she walks by
One morning I thought
I'd just say Hi
I walked up to her
But she backed away
She didn't have
Too much to say
She seemed afraid
To shake my hand
When she looked at me
I began to understand
Her eye was black
As she glanced at me
She turned away
So I would not see
I walked beside her
Not saying a word
Knowing that silence
Can sometimes be heard
After the third day
She slightly smiled
When I came out
We walked awhile
She started to talk
About her life
The struggles of being
A mother and wife
I noticed more bruises
She tried to hide
She masked all the pain
She carried inside
I wanted to ask her
But I didn't dare
What a terrible cross
She had to bear
Every day we walked
Though her body was sore
She would get quiet
When we neared her door
She looked so afraid
As she'd quickly say bye
Was that a glimmer of
A tear in her eye
She started to wait
Each morning for me
By the oceans edge
She'd stand patiently
Sometimes she would cry
But never would tell
Of the demons at home
Who put her through hell
She would talk of the
Seagulls in the air
Or the different way
I wore my hair
She had a grace about her
A certain charm
But she never discussed
The bruises on her arm
One day I waited
But she never came
The oceans wave
Were not the same
The seagulls weren't flying
Not going anywhere
Could it be
Because she's not there
It was in the paper
The very next day
Woman beaten to death
Her husband to pay
With tearfilled eyes
I walked alone
Every chance I had
To save her was gone
I never asked her
Why her bruises were there
I should have told her
How much I cared
I never told her
She was my best friend
Or to save her life
I'd gladly taken her in
Words left unspoken
Pain buried so deep
I prayed to God
Her soul to keep
Her name written in
Cold hard stone
As the waves roll in
I walk alone
She had a grace about her
A certain charm
But we never discussed
The bruises on her arm
Oh, Linda, what an incredible poem. So many times we hear of this and only wish that we would have done something. My heart goes out to all women who are abused, and may our Lord Jesus comfort them. What a beautiful lady you are. May God bless you every day of your life.
My heart breaks Linda because I can hear the cry of that woman's soul. She was so terrified she would talk with you and not to you. But you gave her joy before the Lord accepted her home and the guilty will not go unpunished. The Holy Scriptures teaches precious is the blood of all the Gods people, those that are His, God will avenge. Thank you for your bleeding and uplifting heart! Please, nomatter how tragic never stop sharing your gifts with us, this is your voice!
Hi Linda, this is a very emotional and heartbreaking piece you have written.Mostly everyday women are abused by their men and they don't say anything about it or get the help they need.I always wonder why men do these things to women.I hate to say this, but some men are just a-holes in more ways than one. They want to have control and power over a woman and make her feel less of something.Thank you for sharing this poem.take care
HOW HEART WRENCHING...SHE HAD NO IDEA THAT HAD SHE SPOKEN TO YOU OF THE TRAVESTIES...YOU WOULD HAVE UNDERSTOOD AND HELPED. IF YOU HAD PRESSED HER, SHE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE STOPPED WALKING WITH YOU. SO LINDA YOU DO HAVE THIS...YOU GAVE HER AS MUCH CONSOLATION AS SHE VENTURED TO ACCEPT...HER WAY. SAD...BUT IN HER LAST DAYS...YOU WERE A SPARK OF LIGHT FOR HER...PROBABLY MORE THEN SHE DARED HOPE FOR. BLESSINGS AND THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS VERY, VERY TOUCHING WORK. If we go over that unsaid discretion, if we asked perhaps could we have made the difference for a little bird trapped in a cage made of circumstances and self believed fatalism.
Maybe if we had asked...
Great, passionate, full of humanity write.

Wonderful, thank you for these musical words this morning.
This squeezes the heart and will not. Let. Go, Linda. Powerfully, powerfully penned - a potentially life saving message in these lines - if one finds themselves in this situation, tell someone, before it's too late - well done.

Touching and real and all too true, another victim of senseless violence and abuse.
