Fond Christmas Memories

Christmas sure isn't what it used to be....it gets harder every year to keep the magic alive....my memories of the season are pure gold to me now!

Poem Artwork

Sigh…
Fond Christmas memories filtering through
The lunacy of the frustrating commercial mayhem
A once beautiful season has become!
Tis no longer the season to be jolly,
More the time of year to treat the service industry
Like dirt, and scowl at everyone
That happens to get in the way in the mad rush!
Sigh…
Remembering when the heart of the holidays
Was getting together with family and friends,
Sharing laughter and creating memories
That would last a lifetime!
Putting up an honest-to-goodness Christmas tree
That glistened with ordinary decorations.
The tree didn’t have to be a showpiece!
Sigh…
Remembering being ten years old
And still believing in Santa Claus
Just like every other ten year old!
Back then there was no age limit on the magic
And mom and dad allowed us to be kids
Without putting boundaries on our imaginations!
Sigh…
Thinking back to the good old days
When “Merry Christmas” didn’t offend anyone,
When supporting commercialism wasn’t the only way
To show loved ones how much you care!
Remembering when the Christmas Season
Was my favourite time of the year!
Sigh…

It's hard to be enthusiastic when the store displays begin in October and last till February. That's a pretty long season. Oh, cynical me. Patrick

Your memories are truly precious! About today's holidays: I feel we have to dig deep to try to preserve what we can of those good ole' days; remembering that it is up to each one of us to protect, cherish and to duplicate the memories in our hearts, passing them on lovingly to another generation. The most important part of any holiday is to be with those you love, savoring every moment. A lovely poem, Anna

Christmas sure isn't what it used to be...

I couldn't agree more, but very sadly to me, hardly anything today is what it used to be.

Those were the days, Annabell! The memories of when there weren't any fears will live forever.

Great words here, my friend. I'm Jewish and though there was and is no religious aspect to Christmas, Christmas has always been the best time of the year for me because, for me and my family, that's what it was: a happy time for family and yes, there were gifts, lots of gifts, but it was the anticipation and enjoyment of the season that we most enjoyed... But when Halloween and Christmas roll into one commercial enterprise, the enjoyment is gone and this time, to me, seems like any time and I do so miss the anticipation and enjoyment of the season.
Your friend; Mark

It doesn't feel like Christmas to me either, it isn't even Thanksgiving, Anna. Nice poem, but it isn't even Thanksgiving.
