Did you hear the kookaburra laughing...?
he heard how you had never valued me,
and even all the bees
they're buzzing 'round the trees,
with the news
of how 'my lover set me free'.

The possums said that
you 'were playing possum,'
the kangaroo said you were 'on the hop...'
and the gray koala bear,
said that 'it wasn't fair',
and told that laughing kookaburra
that he 'had to stop'.

I sat down by the Murrumbidge river,
and cried into it all the afternoon,
and the platypus looked sad,
because I felt so bad,
while 'The Southern Cross'
wished me to 'feel good soon.'

By evening all the night time fauna heard it,
and they agreed 'a no good snake was you'
and underneath the gleam
of an Aussie sunset dream,
my broken heart was finally mended new.

I wandered through the wattle trees and gum leaves,
and felt the big gold moon smile down from high,
and I said a little prayer...
of thanks right then and there,
for the true blue land that helped my tears to dry.

Can you hear the kookaburra laughing?
He's laughing 'cause my sorrows gone away,
and the Murrimbidge knows
that's the way the current flows,
that everything keeps moving
if it isn't meant to stay.
