I am feeling quite rusty, with so little time to write these days, but the power of nature finally brought my pen to paper and this poem to my den.~sgh

Poem Artwork

Season’s Cast

In quiet solitude of morning

Beneath fuchsia-amber sky

I heard the first yawn of autumn

I saw her stretch in swirling dance

Toting her palette of rusty hues

Brush poised to paint her season

Her presence palpable

Though with spirited curtsey

She pirouetted off the stage

Making way for summer’s finale

With scorching scenes and last hurrah

Fire on the mountain his curtain call

Spires of lavender beg for another show

Hollyhocks aflame in standing ovation

Fronds of cosmos bow to spiked blooms

Awed roses drop petals upon the stage

A troupe that weaves the tapestry backdrop

For the arias of fruit, ripe for harvest

Soon leaves will be autumn’s canvas

Her brush transforming the stage

She will cast her dancers onto the wind

Twirling amid parched boughs

Directing leaves to form a crisp carpet

Face-paint for her vibrant season

But today belongs to the sun

Summer’s costume, readied for his final scene

A swan song in robust bass

A stunning performance not soon forgotten

Drawing in the edge of night, he exits the stage

In a commanding bow to autumn

I find this delightful, Sherry, and the stage analogies and metaphors you use so appropriate for the switch-and-change that is totally characteristic of this twixt-seasons. Love the mood and the tempo and the vibrancy of colour you bring, worthy of the most glitzy West End Show! As you so eloquently portray, nothing can top Nature when it comes to the best. TY for this and good to see you posting. Love, Kate xx

Hey! Hey! Hey! Where ya been? Better still, where have I been, huh? One of the finest-written poems of the coming season I've read in quite some time . . . It is about time you have put pen to paper . . . er . . . fingers to keyboard and allowed us to read you fine work . . . Loved it . . .

Hi Sherry,
I have missed seeing you around here. While I loved the colors of autumn, as a resident of Ohio, I always hated the fact that autumn meant that winter and the snows were just around the corner. Now that I am in Texas, where it is 90+ degrees every day of the summer, I am always happy to see the first cold front, even if the cold front only drops the temperature to the low 80s, as reports are that it will, next week.

This is a beautiful piece.
Thanks and please don't be a stranger!
