Fear’s Revenge

Standing on the edge,
Vertigo reaches up,
Tries to pull me down,
Falling like a stone into the abyss…

In dreams I hit the ground,
And pain vibrates in every pore…

It feels so good,
Like flames searing my very soul,
Fear bleeding into my heart,
Adrenalin rushing into every nerve-

I’ll stand for hours on the edge of tomorrow,
Daring the earth to give way,
The breeze to rise,
And blow me away…

“Jump!” he screams in my ear,
And all to ready I leap,
And spread my arms wide,
Diving like an eagle,
I look for my Kill…

It is below me,
With long brown hair,
Waiting for me to hit,
With a thud and sly smile…

Waiting for that rush,
To flow into every nerve ending,
But he doesn’t trust me,
And yanks the cord,
Before I can stop him…

I would have waited a moment more.

Retta, this is an exceptionally well-penned descriptive write. It’s been a few years since I bailed out of a perfectly good airplane but thanks to you, I’ve relived the wonderful experience. I think it’s time to do it again. Outstanding work. Thank you for sharing your talent. Take care and be well.

Wow! Do you truly skydive? Two of my stepsons did but found it to be an expensive and scary hobby. Once one of them had a parachute that nearly didn't open ... it barely opened in time.
Cool picture and poem :)!

Whoa! We have more than just a little bit of the death-defying cajones here, Reindeer. I was beginning to become fretful even as I was reading this well-written poem that no one was gonna pull the damn ripcord. Thank Gawd somebody has a little common sense up there. If you want to become as one with the earth, there are really better ways. LOL

this one is exciting, with a dark undercurrent--outstandingly penned! for my thrills, i'll ride a rollercoaster--jumping out of perfectly working airplanes is not my thing :)

hope you're well--

We know it now, you'll do most anything... and do it well. Congrats on the fall in space, and your write describing it. Riveting read!
