*Someone told me once, they do not accept apologies because they are given too freely to excuse actions that should not have happened, but sorrow is all I have to give.*
* For you dear JP*

I hurt someone tonight,
Someone close to my heart,
But they will never know,
How much it hurt me more…

They strayed too close,
To my wounded heart,
Tried to peek in,
Tried to take part
In the shadow of my life,
And I pushed them away,
Would not let them stay-

They didn’t say a word,
Just smiled sadly,
But I saw how wounded they were,
And didn’t know what to say,
I hurt someone today,
And that is not my way…

I smile and whisper words,
I let them know they are heard,
But I do not let them in,
I am not a true friend-

They wanted to hold my hand,
But I do not trust any man,
Keep myself hidden,
Shy from anything they want to know,

Trying not to show
How much they mean to me,
And I hurt them deeply,
How much I wish I could call out!
Tell them what they want to hear,
Somehow put away my fear!

So many want to know too much!
Always asking why I can’t bear to be touched-
I don’t want you to know!
Why can’t we just pretend everything’s okay,
It’s the only way
I can get through the day,

But now all I can see,
Is the hurt in your eyes,
When I could not tell you why I cry…

God how much I hate what I have done,
I hurt someone tonight,
And I wish so much that I was strong
Enough to right this wrong,
I am so sorry my friend,
But no one, no one,
Gets in..

Hugs The hurt in your friends eyes I suspect was her pain knowing that you are in pain. She/He will wait until you are ready. I feel a lot of love flowing through this write; you are healing :-) Hugs.

A touching write, although we all make mistakes for which we are sorry, it takes a bigger person to forgive them. ~Trish~

We all make mistakes and when we are really sorry, it does hurt more. Such apologies must be accepted.

Retta, We often hurt the one we love or like the most, but that does not mean we are not true friends.

Those who can take our hurting and still be our friend, they are the true friends to ride the river with.

A wonderful work though so sad.

this one made me misty eyed having
that kind of a day anyway.

this is an honest and eye-opening poem, reindeer, written from the heart. i am sure your apology will be accepted by your friend. if she is a friend, then she will apologize; and life will go on. that is the mark of a true friendship: they stick by each other, through thick and through thin, and through good times and in bad. i hope that happens between you two. love, your friend, karen lynn in texas. (((HUGS))) :)

Oh, Retta, this aches...I really don't know what to say except we are all unique, some of us do not have the strength to go the extra miles, I know that feeling well...we love what we can in ourselves, and insulate the core, it is the method that works to protect the soul. I don't know if that came out right, just want you to know it is okay to be who you are, Beautiful Reindeer of the North.

The definition of a friend is someone who knows all about you, the good points and the bad, and still likes you, and it is a two way street of consideration.

Sad, but well done work. [as usual]
