She was a child of the moon,
Black hair studded with silver stars,
Her eyes as blue as the midnight sky,
Her skin like honey dew,
And he loved her,
This tall and golden man,
Hair like corn silk on wild green stem,
He was the day,
That loved the Midnight Goddess…

She played upon the meadows,
Surrounded by the gentle fairies,
How they danced around her!

But he, this man bound by the Earth,
Was too slow and heavy to follow,
Yet he was content to gaze upon her,
From his hidden hollow…

He had found her one dew-drop morning,
Sitting on a moss covered stone,
Playing with the stars that fell from her hair…
Though frightened she had stayed,
For his gentle beauty attracted her affections,
And she stayed until the coming of the day-

When Dawn began to hue,
She ran, no rather she flew
Into a jungle so vast,
He knew he could follow but never pass
Through those trees that blocked his path…

Still he loved her,
For she was a part of his soul
That he had never known…
And the days passed in a blur…

He plucked golden flowers,
That flourished in the gentle showers,
And the blood red roses that knew too much,
Tried to pass them into her hand,
But alas,
Was forced to watch with such sadness,
As they fluttered to the ground,
And died without making a sound…

Thus he learned to be content,
To watch her dance whenever he got the chance,
And though Night and Day were separated by Dawn,
He knew she would never be gone long,
Was happy enough to wait for eternity’s end,
When day and night would finally blend,
And these two ill-fated lovers would be together again…
