Like A River

Sorrow flows
Like a river
The sands of memories
Strangle the soul
The silt of regret
Stifle the spirit
The ache of (your) absence
The resulting emptiness
Congest the heart
The flotsam of circumstance
Smothers all hope of happiness
Gives rise to a flood of tears

Sorrow like a river
Overflows its banks

Waiting for a rainbow
It feels like drowning

The river does hold redemption, by watching it's flow and knowing it ends up at the ocean, does make a difference to me. A river can be small but when it joins another river or ocean it can become bigger and bigger, and like us, a river can leave behind it's worries and join with another likeness.

God knows there's plenty of reasons to be engulfed by sadness, bereavement to name just one.

Tony Bennett sings, Isn't it a Lovely Day. It's a great life! he says. And then qualifies his statement with, Well, think of the alternative... it's a lovely day!

Your Words Reach Into The Dark Depths Of Emotions....Loss Aches To The Very Soul. I Feel A Poetic Reply To The Very Heart of YOU:

In sorrows plight I held your tears;
Releasing yourself with each one shed…
Gathering every piece of you within;
I listened to every word your heart has said...

Speaking into the pain of your broken dreams;
I then took your teardrops into the soul of me...
To show you love & the beauty of tenderness;
I embrace you within the visions of love I see...
