Be careful how much of your soul you give away...

Poem Artwork

Curtains… …Your Call

Explain to me
Why you control the curtains
When you choose to close them
By your absence
Or indifference
You dull the edge of living
You take away the smile of the sun
I cannot feel its soothing touch
I cannot see the winsome visage of the moon
Smiling at her winking friends
The stars
And me
I cannot see the rainbow
The sparkling gems on dew laden grass
The song of the rain
The sigh of the snow
And birdsongs are hushed
The breeze and the trees
Are vague
It’s dim behind the curtains
You have drawn
It’s diffuse and dark and dreary
And only really fit for weeping

Very powerful poem. Sometimes you can't control it and give all of yourself (your soul) away to someone and then they dump you like you are trash, like you are nothing, are worth nothing. And then when a new person comes into your life you fear of completely opening yourself up to the new person yet it happens again and you end up getting hurt again and wonder what's the point of even trying...when the end result is always the same.

I love to look at the stars out my bedroom window when I'm lying in bed at night! I slept outside one evening in a sleeping bad right on the grass on a lovely summer night. I wasn't along but he had his own bag!!!

Apart from your excellent writing -- laden with emotion - there's one message that jumps out at me: how much we tend to let others rule our world and why not just rip that curtain aside...step to another window...why not go on enjoying the beautiful bounty of nature and our being, even if alone.

Yes, I know..the power of love. But is it really love? or just passion?

A brilliant sharing of the agony of filtered love.

When we love with unbridled devotion, there is no life without unmeasured return.

And here, Reg, you put it all into such few words right from the outset with your deep and rightful demand, "Explain to me why you control the curtains..."

You warn us in your introduction, "Be careful of how much of your soul you give away"; yet in love we must know that it is worthless and insincere if we give less than our best and expect the same in return.

As always, Reg, your work is profound and exemplifies great wisdom and experience.

With respect and admiration,
Richard
