Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could learn all of life's lessons from our favorite books,poems or television programs? Unfortunately, the most important lessons of life are learned through our pains and tears. Thankfully,we do grow as a result of the lessons of life.

Life's Lessons The truly important lessons of life Hurt too much to be repeated. These lessons bring with them much strife For those of us who are greeted By their searing pain, heartaches and such That take us by a surprising gentle touch At first, when we are at ease. They tease away our resistance, and they appease Us with feelings of delight -at first. Because we are not alert, we get taken in. Then we realize too late, the price we must pay For just a fleeting moment of pleasure along life's uncertain way. Copyright(c): 2009

I LIKE YOUR INTRODUCTION; IT WOULD BE GREAT IF WE WOULD LEARN FROM POEMS, BOOKS, TV PROGRAMS ETC OR ESPEICALLY FROM MAMA'S OR DADDY'S WARNINGS, BUT, ALAS...IT JUST DOESN'T HAPPEN THAT WAY. Wonderful lyrical flow to your words, Barbara. I agree that the most important lessons in life are the hurtful ones. But from those great hurts, comes strength and personal growth. Very much enjoyed this poem. Thanks for sharing.

Lessons can be a joy sometimes. I loved your whole poem!

I once had the odd occasion of an old guy stopping me at the side of a busy road, shouting "Old man" and pointing to the other side of the road. So I grabbed his arm and led him half way over. He suddenly tore his arm away and then said "No you fool! there's an old man over there trying to cross. Not me!"
