A sarcastic look at life then and now.

A long time ago way back when, people had money not much maybe but cash in the hand, enough to get by for some save a little for others. A friendly smile a wave of the hand no not an Emoji from Japan. Maybe it's time not enough, too much too little a lack of trust. Most attributes of being content have been neglected or lost to a river of I want's. Live on credit die in debt no time for 'How are you.' more 'Dont tell me, I know.' So heads are down affixed to mobiles no one cares or looking where they go. Social media gives you friends thousands of them some with funny names, most of whom you have never met yet you send them a picture of your dressed up Cat. You drift to Youtube find out when the end of the world is about to begin, then find a course on Hypnoprickles so you sign up just for a giggle. Then you wonder how did they exist in that world way back when, you've got it made what more do you need this is the life you believe.

Life on the internet is make-believe. As long as we realize their limitations, our devices won't rule our lives but only become outlets for our art and fantasies.

For farmers way back then, it was dawn to dusk, sleep and then start all over again. Factory workers put up with terrible conditions and had their own Facebook lives at the corner bar. My parents were stars at the local Household Finance office, continually in debt and car poor.

New gadgets like electrical appliances and television sets were gobbled up in a race to see who was first to have them.

There is a world of difference between then and how as you purposefully lay out for us here in this poem. Ah, the way we were in light of the way we will be. Perhaps death isn't a bad thing. Who would want to live forever at the rate we are going.
