Who Cares?

I've never written of war...before it was never my thing, but I just might break with my own rule of thumb.... and stick it up for those who serve bravely....

Who Cares?

We sit at home in our cosy chairs
sneer at the soldiers, in their camoflauge greens
think to ourselves it's not our war
oil is the ultimate gain for greed
land, uranium, every darn thing
except human life

Gold mines, Diamond Mines, Copper mines
salt if it were worth a pinch
we'd fight over that too
a thimble full of Goat manure
if it were found to be worth a toss

It's all well and good
to sit back in our cosy chairs
with all the answers
and none at all in reality...

Till you meet someone who has served
in real life combat situations
who has done the hard yard
survived to tell the tale...

attitude change, reality check,
the cosy chair takes on new dimensions

complacency ceases with realization
these guys are human beings
putting their life and limb on the line
all the while longing for a cosy chair
but brave and decent enough

to not commondeer
so who cares?

They Care!

Listen to their stories and never ever again sneer!

All, ALL of these guys need our constant thanks. They served when they may or may not have agreed with the philosophy of our times, but damn it, they served.
THANK YOU!

A lousy writer? I don't think so. Such a compelling and thoughtful write. We all need to listen to your power words of honesty.
(Don't pay attention to people with bad attitudes.)

Nice person below eh! All heart! Perhaps I am a lousy writer...
In any case I could care less, it's not about being a marvellous writer, it's about projecting the depth of feeling within. HUH.. Fair go eh!

no reviewer will tell you guys the truth , you stil got a long way to go ,so feel less proud and work harder then you will rud shoulders with Shakespear and Emily DICKENSON , to be honest.

Very well said Ch'erie. Thank you for this tribute to our troops. Other than my father and my Grandfathers, I was the only one in my family to have served in the military. Most within my family, the younger generation especially, can't understand why I refuse to "celebrate" Memorial Day by partying and having cookouts. To me, this is a day of solemn remembrance to those who died so that we could live free. I'll save the Fourth of July for celebrating our freedoms. But to me, Memorial Day is for thanking God for the sorrowful unselfish sacrifices of every man and woman who fought and/or died. I just can't see using this day as an excuse to party and celebrate. It's not what it was meant to be. And if we can't set one day a year aside as a solemn remembrance to them then we really have become a sorry lot. Thank you for the reminder and God bless you my friend.

As the son of a WWII vet, an employee of National Defence for 25 years and having just came back from visiting our nation's Capital and touring the war museum...I know exactly what you are saying with this well deserved tribute to those who's armchairs are often the cold dirt.
