I AM THE TREE AND IT IS ME

Have you ever hugged a tree

                                              I know it’s crazy

Stood in awe of its size

                                             What am I thinking

Have you heard the forest groan

                                            Why was I listening

Seen the Wisdom in its branches

                                          Have I gone mad

Do you see the metaphor

Recognize the lessons

Do you want to Remember

To Know

Our life

is dependent upon all the earth

We do not exist

Unless it does also

I must care

Connect

BE

I am the tree

And it

It Is Me

Arms out stretched

Lifted high

Shade and nurture for all

Roots down deep

Gripping soil

Holding life and earth together

Breathe deep kind tree

That I may also

We are One

You and I

Together we breathe and live

Or die

I need your life

You need mine

You know this

Deep down I do too

And yet

I do not honour, respect

Nurture, and guard your borders

I do not love myself

How can I love you

You are the metaphor for my life

All that I can be

But

Am not

In my dying moments

In yours too

Will I remember

Will I understand

What I have done to you

Not you to me

Will there be other generations

Or is this end

Because of I

And We

The humans you gave life

When we are gone

Will there still be you

I think not

You and I and We are all one

All connected

All living and dying

Together we control each other’s fate

Not that yours is wilful

That is a human domain

You harmonize with our own self-destructiveness

You feel our pain

Even when we feel none for you

Would you save us if you could

You try every day

Just by Being

If I learn to love myself

Will you survive

In the healing of myself

Will all be healed

Will doomsday and catastrophe

Come to end when they are no longer in me

Am I the metaphor for you

As you are

For Mankind

If I change Me

Will you live

Will I

Can I

Be the one to change the world

By changing me

I am you Tree, and you are Me

Please let me try

What are you thinking when you hug a tree? Well, that's the biggest thing since riding a horse bareback.

In the meantime, as you describe, a tree is everything to us.
