My grandson, Tanner, now going into his senior year of high school, made a profound statement when he was only two.

Tanner's Last...First Day of School Today is my grandson, Tanner's, last...first day of school. My soul is flooded with memories: He's only a few months old, and he's sprawled out on my stomach. I'm rocking him and singing. Tanner falls asleep, and so do I. We are content. Now, Tanner is two. He has great command of the English language. I see him wearing snug pajamas, and the sleeves are way too tight. They're pushed above his elbows, even tighter. In frustration, Tanner tries pulling them down. I ask him, "What's wrong?" He tells me, "I can't get my stupid sleeves down!" Now, he's really frustrated, so I say to him, "Your mom doesn't want you saying stupid." Tanner grits his teeth and replies, "I'm not supposed to say shit either!" Dare I share more Tannerisms? ©Copyright 2016 By David Lee Thompson

As Art Linkletter used to say, "Kids Say the Darndest Things." Like his grandpa, Tanner certainly was a quick study. I hope that high school doesn't ruin him. From that expression he made as a two-year-old, I would say he was already well on his way becoming a writer.

And they sure grow up fast, don't they? More Tannerisms please. Either in poetry or story form.
