Winter Light

Death or rebirth?

As winter light

Stretches long our shadows

Like giants

If only in death

The horizon winks yellow-orange

Ever rising

Ever receding

Though we chase it

Like rainbows

We will never reach

For they retreat

Specter spectrums

Ghosts of beauty

Indirect, effusive from

The eye-burn egg yolk

Of birth and loss

And you too

My love

Now cocooned

In ceramic

Expectant hope

When shuffled off

At last

Beyond the eastern Point

To fly forever

Shimmering colors

To guide this frozen path

I certainly appreciate "winter light," and the monochromatic white and dark of the snow-covered winter scene, but I had a little trouble with ashes being contained in a ceramic vase, unless they were set free to "fly forever" beyond the "Eastern point." Or at least that is as much as I could discern. As much as we are, "all talented," we also, all die, and I believe your poem is about that eventuality that I am looking forward to because my work here on this beautiful Earth, is basically done.

To fly forever—a beautiful concept—expectant hope. Lovely.
Thanks for sharing the vision. Danae.

An interesting fusing of life and death, allowing more of the oneness of life to be appreciated... perhaps even the oneness of death. There is celebratory resonance between the rainbow of life and shadows of death, for it can be argued that we all spend a part of our lives in pursuit of both life and death. I personally appreciate the poets that explore such dichotomies of separateness and their inter-relationships that often result in a confluent perception. If only more poets would give us such challenges of thought. Kudos.

I am not cocooned in ceramic, but I would visit all those places beyond the eastern Point with you any time. You are still one of my top three poets on the den. This poem showcases your talent. Post a little more often, and I will nudge you back into the #1 slot where you belong. Glad you are safe and sound.
