Great write John,

You've probably seen this before. But us baby boomers should put the millennials, in a room with analog clocks, rotary phones, 8 tracks, with instructions on how to use these in cursive! We'll take back the world in no time, dear fried!

Just read this today, and it rings true. My grandson can not read or write cursive, and he's 14. He has to print his name. And along with cursive, it seem that if a clock isn't digital, the kids today can't tell you what time it is, and to really throw them off, just let that clock be in Roman numerals.

John, I am a retired teacher, and I must admit that I did indeed require my students to use cursive in all the subjects. I also required my students to copy correctly from the board and from their textbooks. It made better spellers out of them. In addition to using cursive and spelling correctly, I asked students to be neat and stay within the margins. What is wrong with teaching students the right way to do things? Teaching was my purpose for being in the classroom, not for the students to take off on their own, without any form of instruction. I think we should strive to do our best in all things. I neither have the time nor space to expound further on this subject. No doubt I will hear from others regarding my beliefs, and I'm okay with whatever they have to say. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I wish they would put penmanship back in the schools. It is almost impossible to read these kids writing and when you ask them to write they look at you like you are crazy. They all want the computer. Shame too.

I still write,using cursive,letters and notes. Maybe I should copy everything I write and leave stacks of letters to my grandchildren!! They might be able to buy a house with them!

I LIKE IT, I WAS TAUGHT CURSIVE IN SCHOOL AND I HOPE IT NEVER BECOMES EXTINCT BUT IN THE EVENT THAT IT DOES FADE AWAY(AS OTHERS STYLES HAVE)AS LONG AS I CAN READ IT...I REALLY DON'T CARE HOW ITS WRITTEN. Some yesrs down the road your grandchildren will treasure those cursive writings from grandpa. Yes, those scribbles may become worthy too.
