Summer or winter day or night
The woods are an ever-new delight;
They give us peace, and they make us strong,
Such wonderful balms to them belong:
So, living or dying, I’ll make mine ease,
Under the trees, under the trees.

The Mystery of the Forest

In the forest where trees grow tall
Branches interlaced against the sky
All around me is lush and green
My thourghts of fancy freely fly!

Along the winding trail I move
In shade or deepening shadow
What stillness pervades the air?
In this Holy twilight hour!

Shade upon shade of every hue
Sun's slanting rays in waning light
Woody scents come through together
Pale stars welcome this lovely night

The air is uplifting and clean
Within these woods where spirits reign.
Peelling back the years of life
I somehow become a child again!

It was here our ancestors wandered
Through the spendour of many springs
The brook murmours on amid the pines
Through mistry smiles nature sings.

The mystery of the forest is forever
Down throiugh the slow changing years
Nature's stirring drama plays on. .
Kissed by the sun a fairyland appears!

Very enchanting, indeed. As a 'daughter of the forest', I related well to every line.

Oh such mysteries, how they elude our every day life until we stop and listen to the songs they sing....

Be always safe,

As a forest lover myself, I love your poem - there are few places I would rather be than in the most enchanting wood.

Hi Beryl, I love the forest, too! While reading this, it reminded me of the book called "Green Mansions". It's an old book, but it's a wonderful book. Thank you for sharing the beauty of the forest...

I learned to love the woods early in life. Dad would take us mushroom picking. A breath of fresh mountain air, Beryl! I liken the forest to God's cathedral. It seems you echo my sentiments...Lin

Beryl,
Beautiful trip into the woods! If only the trees could talk they would tell of times gone by, I loved this, Beryl!

Many blessings,
~Linda
