I thought I would mark it on your calendar
so that you'd remember this anniversary,
the day you first made me cry.
But I'd be lying if I said I shed tears.
See, I've taken away my defenses
and I have made promises
to nurture this open-door policy of ours
so I can't even protect myself
when the hurt starts pouring in.
I just have to curl up and take it.
I withold my tears from you
because it's the only revenge I am allowed.

After all of your promises,
I knew we would have our rough days
but I thought we'd have them together.
It's supposed to be you and me
standing against all of them
Not you letting every slight hint
or faint rumbling of possible turbulence
turn me into the source of your problems.
Really, I expected more of you.
