...In blistering heat, I marveled...

The Desert Came, Mr. Wanderer,---
After all the drifting and waning nights.
He came thrusting fiery tongues of molded heat...

And we danced, and fancied this newness
Rookies in the sweltering heat for sure
Unprepared and in solitude.

And now the Desert is calm, the winds have gone
Where once little Dust Devils twirled their delights

Their weeping, dancing, and carefree frolic
Amongst the visible heat waves
And my cracked thirsting lips

But beneath the surface a storm rages
This sea of faded brown and blanched heat

The sands sing their epitaph:
Swallowed the creatures, for thirst is not quenched

Fooled by mirages and images
Gently rolling hills of sand, sloped forward

Concealed both the beauty and danger
Opposites as friends
This nature's way of change presented

Oh, the Desert came my friend,
And never left any singing shadows....

i can identify with this so much, Myles,
i spent a decade living among the sands
of Arabia and you bring the experiences
rushing back.
Thank you.

I enjoyed the way this builds and the juxtaposition between the first and last stanzas.
Such vibrant and alive is this with its many images.

Interesting poem. Well done. It makes one think and that's good. Nice to meet you, Myles, I'm new here.
