Have A Good Day

Here'a a poem about a pet peeve.

There is a phrase I hate to hear
It seems to stick hard in my ear
After all the business is done
They seem to shout, “have a good one!”

“Have a good one”, I hear them say
“a good what?” I ask – they say “good day.”
Say what you mean and mean what you say
It’s not a “good one” it’s a “good day.”

A “good one” is so inconclusive
And furthermore is so allusive
Why don’t they just say what they mean
And don’t use words which are in between?

If “have a good day” is meant
They should show their real intent
But if they mean have a good cry
They can let their comments pass me by.

“Thank you” used to be good enough
But someone added this other stuff
So, my friend, I bid you adieu
When my business with you is through.

lol! The new language day-to-day lingo seems to be the way to go these days; I catch people saying, That's my fav! Instead of that's one of my favorites! or What's your soc! Instead of what's your social security #. It's short quick phrases with lack of thought behind it! lol! I guess people don't want to talk much anymore and often times don't say what they really mean! But today is a good day to have come across your poem. It's very good! I truly enjoyed it! Thanks you for sharing! :)

Shorthand-speak sometimes confuses instead of clarifies....I agree completely.

larry,

That's just the way Americans talk, they shorten everything they say. If someone has a two syllable name, it's going to be cut. And as for 'have a good day', the late George Carlin said, 'well, what if want a crappy day, who are u to tell me what to have!' Language is a strange animal. Mary
