      boarded splinters
      stranded trees
      rabid borders
      torrent seas

howling wind, long since quieted--
howling survivors, of innocence shed
city turned marshy lake--
city ever changed, for some forsake

     oily film
     island houses
     nature's quelm
     humanity's loses

slanting rain, long since collected--
slanting houses, of unfortunate death
memories taken, by churning wake--
memories living, for families' sakes

     structures torn
     dwellers displaced
     stragglers mourn
     bullets faced
