Time is just a word, what is time?

The time before time

In the time before ‘time’

Before clocks mattered much

The time before man lived by watches and clocks

Time was eternal

Written into the rocks

No Greenwich Time, Eastern Standard Time and no daylight savings

No alarm bells or chimes and ‘hurry up’ ravings

Just the Sun and the Moon and life to be lived

No calendars or schedules, no ‘time’ to be saved

Harmonious times when all things behaved

Time was eternal; we had all the time in the world

Then man’s greatest burden, ‘time’, was unfurled

Now we have ‘real’ time, space time and surreal time

And the time that we have ‘at the drop of a hat’

And there’s no time at all, to do any of that

There’s the best of times and the worst times

There’s meal times and leisure times

Work times and sleep times and play times also

And there’s time interrupted, because it’s all stop and go

There’s the right time to live, the wrong time to die

The best times to laugh and the worst times to cry

The times that we enjoy,

When everything seems to go right

The times of great peace

And the times we choose to fight

There are the times that we have to do anything at all

And then times that we seem to have no time at all

That time that we call, ‘one day’ we will

And the time when we say we’ve had ‘all of our fill’

The time goes so slowly, while the years gone so fast

The future times we dream of and the time that’s long past

Our lives are all ruled by that tick of the clock

All the while looked upon by that timeless old rock

How I long for that time before time came about

That Dreamtime was timeless without any doubt

The time that was measured by the phases of the moon

And whether our hunger would be fed anytime soon

That time before time ruled by that timeless old sun

That time before time when everything was one

Again, some important points brought up. Great topic for a great write. Check out Axilea Uzumcuoglu's "When"...along the same vein as this poem, she explores time and place, and whether or not we're better off for all the modernization of society. WELCOME TO AD!!!! --Charlie
