'The Dragon is coming', they holler and shout
Their warnings to all around
What have they begot, or have they forgot
The price they pay for protection
The young maiden reclines all dressed in white
As they scurry like frightened lambs beneath her
Sitting atop a stone upon the green grassy knoll
She’s the sacrifice protection demands
She does not fear death she only regrets
Her greatest wish was to be loved
The dragon touched ground and walked all around
Amazed she didn’t quiver
‘What is your name’, the dragon requested
Surprising her with his elegant speech
‘Lorilei’ she replied no fear from inside
She wasn’t afraid of this creature
‘Come away with me, my beautiful pet’
The dragon simply stated
She hopped on his back and away they went
The village never again to see her
O’er the years she grew to care deeply
For the quixotic creature she roomed
On impulse she kissed, he turned to a prince
For true love was the key to the future
A trip to the unusual, nothing new for me. I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed the writing. Sometimes a subject just demands to be noticed and until you do, they have a tendency to stay right where they are the most annoying!

I liked the story. The poetic format was well used, but I love rhyme. Especially, in a story, I love to come back to a rhyme. It makes the story stick even more.

Nice write Linnie, with fantasy you can create anything your imagination can conceive. The characters don't even have to be frogs either. Good stuff.

I bet your kids love this one at bedtime. I don't know much about poetry, but I like this one a lot.
The first book in the series takes place on Klairn, a post apocalyptic, yet provincial world where an elite core of Protectors keep watch over those who would cause harm. Becoming a Protector of Klairn is about as hard as making the Olympics on Earth
