And...what does one dare...to bray...
on this Memorial Day?
when an honest heart cannot stay
within its ‘own familiar’ conclave
But of the...hate...of the deprave
which mocks the honor of true brave…
of those who rest in Arlington’s peaceful shade
in this land where ‘freedom waves’
This nation…cannot ignore the graves
of those lives needlessly taken away
innocent blood …saturates our way
and the list of victims is not short, nay…
As the...record...did not begin just today
but from long ago the ‘cruel’ assayed...
based on culture, creed or skin-color maze
to unjustly besiege, hurt and fray…
Those…termed ‘different’ from they
so pitiful...are servers of this brutal tray…
forgetting…GOD…created 'All’ from clay
O Precious Lord, we reach to Thee...this Memorial Day!

I haven't written a Memorial Day poem for a long time. It has been 75 years since World War II engulfed the nearly entire world in senseless war over ideology. Our armies have basically been mercenary rather than citizen soldier ever since. Perhaps it is time that we start including the innocent who have lost their lives through hatred in this "free" country.
