My Friend Franziska
This poem is a present for a friend
Unlike anyone I have ever known
The one I can rely on in the end
When everyone else has left me alone
Here and near no matter how far we are
Her eyes could melt a heart of ice break stone
Or knock down any barrier you please
The boys see her and go weak in the knees
For "hot" is spelled F - R - A - N - Z - I -
S - K - A that is all you need to know
And I who know her need no wings to fly
Her skin like burnished bronze of deepest glow
Her hair the very mantle of the night
Her heart the whole of summer's warmth and light
Five feet of glory fit to make one grow
Like nothing anyone has seen before
And I who know her need know nothing more
