A hippie and a red neck friend
Were sitting by the campfire
Both enjoyed a big fat joint
That launched them ever higher
A bag of marshmallows beside them lay
Like delicately orbed temptation
As the darkness stole the breath of day
The hippie made a hazy observation
The stars presented their sparkling lights
As the fireflies joined the starlight’s twinkle
As they often do on summer nights
The hippie’s forehead began to wrinkle
Glowing embers betrayed the waning blaze
As their orientation wandered free
Both lost in thoughts in horizon’s gaze
The boundary they could no longer see
The pitch darkness and the fireflies
Merged with stars up in the sky
They could not decipher up or down
And took a toke to determine why
They each exhaled and shook their head
Becoming lost in life it seemed
“Maybe it’s like this when you’re dead
Exorcizing every thing you’ve dreamed”
Thinking that it might just be Hell
They stared deeply into the fire
Then they gazed around the darkened camp
Wondering do heaven’s twinkling lights inspire?
In the darkness they found the answer
Toasting orbs they now enjoyed
We are here on earth between two worlds
We are living in Devoid
